American Idol kicked off its 2015 summer tour Tuesday in Clearwater, Fla.
Both the new format and the Top 5 got rave reviews from TampaBay.com.
American Idol has booked smaller venues for this year’s 37-date tour.
They’ve also reduced the cast to that Top 5 — winner Nick Fradiani, runner-up Clark Beckham, Jax, Tyanna Jones and Rayvon Owen. Past tours have included at least a Top 10, and sometimes more.
That said, Joey Cook did perform an opening set on Tuesday and will continue in that role for the first six tour dates.
No word on whether someone else from the Season 14 cast will serve that same role later in the tour.
According to the coverage from TampaBay.com, Tuesday’s show included an original from Clark called “I Won’t Give Way,” a folksy original from Nick called “Coming Your Way” and a cover of Paramore’s “Brick by Brick” by Jax, a song she didn’t perform on Idol.
Now, if you live in south central Pennsylvania and you’d like to catch this year’s tour live, you’re going to have to do some driving.
The original tour schedule included a July 21 date in Baltimore, Md., but that’s been canceled and replaced by a tour date that same day in the Richmond, Va., area.
That leaves the 2015 tour with no dates in Maryland and just one in Pennsylvania — July 25 at the Sands Bethlehem Event Center. Tickets for that show are $43.50 to $63.50.
