But it looks like he might have a hit on his hands.
Forty-eight hours after its release, “Five More Minutes” was still number three on the country iTunes singles chart.
The new tune was also an impressive number 21 on the iTunes overall singles chart.
Scotty penned the song with Frank Rogers and Monty Criswell in a writing session just two weeks after his grandfather died.
The Season 10 American Idol winner told Country Rebel he started talking about his grandfather — “just the good times we had … still have a few things I wish I could have said to him and things I wish I could have done again with him.”
Presto, that became the song — the desire to have just five more minutes to cherish something special.
Scotty performed the song at the Grand Ole Opry in June 2016. His performance earned a standing ovation.
And the video of that performance (you can check it out below) became a YouTube hit with more than 2.5 million views.
So the success of the single shouldn’t be too surprising.
Since winning Idol, Scotty, now 23, has placed four singles in the Top 20 on the Billboard country charts.
His last hit, “Feelin’ It,” peaked at number 10 on the country airplay chart in 2014. His only single since, 2015’s “Southern Belle,” failed to crack the Top 40.
