Tayler Green had tried singing shows in the past.

But it didn’t take long for the 27-year-old from New Jersey to make an impression during The Voice Season 18 blind auditions.

Singing “Issues” by Julia Michaels, Tayler’s vocals had Kelly Clarkson turning around within 20 seconds and eventually coaxed a chair turn from Nick Jonas as well.

Here’s what Tayler told Voice Views about her journey to The Voice and her blind audition experience.

Voice Views: How did you wind up auditioning for The Voice Season 18 and what prompted you to do it?

Tayler: My mentor, Lena Anthony, asked me to give a vocal lesson to one of her mentees and it turns out she had a big audition for The Voice. When my mentor thanked me, she asked me if I was going to try out; I originally had not planned to. She said why would you count yourself out!? I felt like it was divine and I did not know I was counting myself out so I decided to do it.

Voice Views: Why did you choose “Issues” for your audition song? What’s your performance history with that song (for instance, is it one you’ve played often)?

Tayler: This song feels like I wrote it. I love Julia Michaels.

Voice Views: Did you have a coaching preference heading into the blind audition? Why did you decide to go with Kelly Clarkson as your coach?

Tayler: I did not have a preference. I thought for sure it would be John or Nick, but you never know what you will do in the moment.

Voice Views: I read where you have auditioned for singing shows in the past. Did you think those experiences helped prepare you for your Season 18 audition? Is there anything you did differently this time? And where are you hoping your time on The Voice leads musically?

Tayler: The Voice was by far the best experience I have had auditioning for a reality singing show. I would say confidence is the main difference. I know the plans God has for me and they are plans to prosper me and not to harm me. So whatever is for me will be there for me. Living by this has really taught me to have confidence in the gifts that God gave me. I’m hoping The Voice gives people a chance to hear my story and inspire the world. I’m hoping that it opens the ears of people connect to my next blessing.
