Season 13

The most unique theme yet for Idol’s Top 7

American Idol producers have fulfilled their promise to freshen up themes in Season 13.

Only this week’s 1980s theme seemed like a nod to the past.

And next week’s theme is the most novel yet.

Seven singers remain on the show — Jess Meuse, Jena Irene, Caleb Johnson, Sam Woolf, Alex Preston, Dexter Roberts and C.J. Harris.

For next week’s show, the singers will suggest songs for one another.

In other words, for example, Jess will get a song suggestion from Jena, Caleb, Sam, Alex, Dexter and C.J.

Then she’ll get to choose which song she wants to sing from the six suggestions.

Now, the singers could certainly try to sabotage one another with crappy suggestions like … oh, let’s say “Islands in the Stream.”

But my guess is they’ll play nice because if one theme is repeated over and over in the weekly elimination calls, it’s that the Idol experience creates an incredibly close bond between the contestants.

On another note, the judges’ decision to save Sam Woolf didn’t backfire, after all.

Well, at least not until he bumps a more deserving singer from the show.

Malaya Watson was not one of those singers.
