The American Idol Top 7 will each take the stage twice this week.

That’s 14 performances in a two-hour show.

How is American Idol ever going to squeeze in all that music?

Just joking, of course. I’m sure the show’s snail pace — one song, followed by 20 commercials — can be kicked up a notch.

But I doubt we’ll see fewer commercials.

This week’s theme is American Classics, which is nice and broad and just the way it should be.

And here are this week’s rankings.

1. Clark Beckham (1): He wasn’t the best performer last week. I ranked him second best. But he’s been remarkably consistent and nothing has shaken my faith that he will take the Season 14 title.

2. Jax (2): She is maddeningly inconsistent. But I look at the Idol social media numbers, and I see no one more popular. I look at the list below, and see no one more intriguing. So here she stays.

3. Joey Cook (4): Last week, she said she wanted to show she could perform a popular song without wrecking the arrangement. So she tackled “Wrecking Ball.” And accomplished her mission.

4. Quentin Alexander (3): He toned down the clothing “style” last week. Unfortunately, his performance seemed a bit toned down, too. He just can’t quite seem to deliver that elusive Idol “moment.”

5. Nick Fradiani (5): Meawhile, Nick takes the stage each week and delivers one solid performance after another. Solid, not spectacular. But I won’t be a bit surprised if he finishes higher than this when all the votes are in.

6. Tyanna Jones (6): The teen rediscovered her magic last week. But I don’t think it will be enough to keep her out of the bottom two, where she’ll have to duke it out with Rayvon Owen for the instant save.

7. Rayvon Owen (7): Speaking of Rayvon, he seems to thrive in those save situations. He’s won two straight. And I peeked at the song list for Wednesday night. He has two crowd pleasers on his agenda.
