The Voice stages its silliest gimmick ever

The Voice’s transformation from a legitimate singing show to a gimmick-laden joke of its former self might now be complete.

The Voice invited eight former standouts back to compete Monday night. They included Maelyn and Renzo for Team Legend, Jake Hoot and the trio Girl Named Tom for Team Kelly and Javier Colon and Jordan Smith for Team Adam.

Their return wasn’t the problem. The purpose was the problem. The goal: To determine which coach would get a second artist in the Season 29 finals.

That’s right, folks. Rather than determining the final spot in the finals based on the performance of the Season 29 cast members, The Voice decided to turn the determination over to a new gimmick called the All-Star showdown.

It gets better. This season has been dubbed The Battle of Champions. So who did The Voice invite back to judge these all-star showdowns?

CeeLo Green, who never coached a singer to victory on the show.

And let’s not forget that Blake Shelton, the real Voice champion, is nowhere around.

So the returning singers squared off in knockout style matches — Maelyn (Team Legend) vs. Jordan Smith (Team Adam); Javier Colon (Team Adam) vs. Jake Hoot (Team Kelly); and Girl Named Tom (Team Kelly) vs. Renzo (Team Legend).

CeeLo declared Maelyn, Girl Named Tom and Jake Hoot the winner. And that means Team Kelly gets an extra person in next Tuesday’s finale.

Oh, did I mention that the finale is next Tuesday? And that fans at home won’t get to vote on who makes the finale? And won’t get to vote on who wins Season 29?

Please tell me this will mercifully be the last season of The Voice.

The returning coaches just showed up for their paychecks.

As for the returning “standouts” this is so misleading.

None of them have had a lasting career.

However, the producers are trying to make it look like there have been success stories.

The declining ratings are showing that viewers are getting fed up.

I don’t think that this will be the final season of “The Voice”

There are still bloggers who think the show (yes, even this gimmick) is wonderful.

One even graded the alums performances.

That blogger has followers that agree with his grades (seldom below a B)

He has them believing the show is legit.

They post who they are rooting for–and who they would have picked of the alums

One commented that the show should have brought back Chevel Shepherd.

Posters there give thumbs up emojis to the others’ opinions.

There are a couple exceptions this time around.

You’re the only blogger who writes the truth.

    Keep it up, Mark,
