Kelly Clarkson did not win the VMA for best video with a social message Sunday night.
And a fellow former Idol contestant played a role in her defeat.
Well, not really. She wasn’t part of the original video.
But when Macklemore, Ryan Lewis and Mary Lambert took the stage Sunday night to perform “Same Love,” they were formed by Oscar and Grammy winner Jennifer Hudson.
“Same Love” ended up winning for best video with a social message, besting Kelly’s “People Like Us” and three other nominees.
The night’s top honor — Video of the Year — went to Justin Timberlake for “Mirrors.”
Taylor Swift’s “I Knew You Were Trouble” was crowned top female video; Bruno Mars’ “Locked Out of Heaven” took top honors on the male side.
And while everyone might be talking about them this morning, two of the most nominated artists — Miley Cyrus and Robin Thicke — came away empty handed.
Meanwhile, Jennifer wasn’t the only former Idol contestant to show up for the event. Here are photos, courtesy of The Associated Press.
Update: Kelly Clarkson wasn’t in attendance. But that didn’t keep her from commenting on what transpired.
Here’s her Tweet from this morning: “Just saw a couple performances from the VMA’s last night. 2 words … #pitchystrippers.”
Now I wonder who she might be talking about?
