Idols on the Music Chart

Yet another No. 1 hit for Carrie Underwood?

Carrie Underwood is closing in on her first number one country hit as part of a duet.

“Remind Me,” off Brad Paisley’s “This is Country Music” album, moved up two spots this week on Billboard’s country singles chart.

That means it passed Lady Antebellum’s “Just a Kiss” and the Zac Brown Band’s “Knee Deep,” leaving only Dierks Bentley’s “Am I the Only One” between it and the coveted number one spot.

If “Remind Me” reaches the top of the country singles chart, it would mark the 11th time Carrie has landed there.

She has 10 number one country singles of her own, a streak that began with “Jesus Take the Wheel” in 2005 and includes three singles (“Cowboy Casanova,” “Undo It” and “Temporary Home”) from her latest album.

Brad, who has released seven albums to Carrie’s three, has 16 number one country hits to his credit.

The rise of “Remind Me” marks the highlight for the Idols on the music charts this week, a week in which virtually everything else seems in retreat mode.

That includes Scotty McCreery, whose Idol EP dropped form 9 to 12 on the country album chart and whose single (“Love You This Big”) dropped one spot to number 16 among country singles.

Among the few exceptions to the downward trend:

* Another heralded duet, “Don’t You Want to Stay,” from Kelly Clarkson and Jason Aldean, holds steady at number six on the adult contemporary chart and re-enters the Hot 100 at number 50.

* Mandisa’s fine third album, “What If It Were Real,” rebounds on the Christian album chart, moving up from 16 to 11.

A full rundown will follow soon.
