His audition: Jeff Lewis, 28, of Coppell, Texas, auditioned with an acoustic version of Usher’s “U Got It Bad.” He was nearly finished with his audition when three coaches — Blake Shelton, Shakira and Usher — turned around in rapid succession.
Her audition: Amy Whitcomb of Longwood, Fla., sang “Because of You” and got Adam Levine to turn around. Coincidentally, before her audition, she said she named Adam as the judge she’d feel most validated by if he turned around.
Her audition: Grace Askew, 26, of Memphis, Tenn., sang “These Boots Are Made for Walking.” Blake Shelton turned around a couple of lines into the song, followed quickly by Shakira. Grace picked Team Blake.
Her audition: Shawna P., 45, of Orange Beach, Ala., auditioned with The Black Crowes’ “She Talks to Angels” and enticed Adam Levine and Shakira to spin their chairs. Though Adam compared her rasp to Janis Joplin, Shawna decided to join Team Shakira.
His audition: Michael Austin, 43, of Norco, Calif., auditioned with Keith Urban’s “Somebody Like You,” prompting Adam and Shakira to turn around, but not country judge Blake Shelton. Michael decided to join Team Adam.
The audition: Mary Miranda, 17, of Albuquerque, New Mexico, auditioned with Selena’s “Como La Flor” and enticed three judges to spin their chairs — Blake Shelton, Usher and Shakira. She chose to join Team Shakira.
Her audition: Jamila Thompson of Atlanta, Ga., performed Beyonce’s “Halo” and got Usher to turn around at the very last moment. As fortune would have it, he’s the coach she wanted.
Her audition: Michelle Raitzin, 21, of Great Neck, N.Y., auditioned with “God Bless the Broken Road” and got Blake Shelton to turn his chair. Apparently he was the only one, though he proclaimed “how do you not push your button” after landing Michelle.
