Chris Daughtry and his band have released their first new single in two years.
Daughtry has a new record deal and a new single out.
“Artificial” — the band’s reaction to artificial intelligence and what could go wrong — dropped Friday.
As of Sunday, the single was in the Top 5 on Apple Music’s rock songs chart and number 97 on its overall singles chart.
“Artificial is about the potential nightmare that A.I. could become and the idea that everything and everyone could eventually be replaced, essentially to perfection, and rendered obsolete.,” Chris Daughtry says in a press release about the single.
“However, the heart and soul of humanity and the ability to feel love, sadness, and compassion can never be replaced.
“While there are plenty of applications where AI can improve our lives and assist in many areas of creativity, I feel it is imperative that we find a way to protect our musicians, actors, writers, and all creative outlets from being destroyed.”
The single is the first original music released by Daughtry in two years.
However, it comes on the heals of a rousing cover of Journey’s “Separate Ways” with Lzzy Hale that has attracted 8 million streams on Spotify alone.
Meanwhile, Daughtry has kicked off a Bare Bones Acoustic Tour with shows in Carmel, Indiana; Des Plaines, Illinois and Detroit, Mich.
Dozens of dates remain including shows in Pittsburgh and Bethlehem, Pa.

I’m glad he’s back to doing rock. The pop stuff on Baptized didn’t suit him.
