Six weeks after winning Idol, Jamal’s version of Tom Odell’s “Heal” has been streamed more than 750,000 times on Spotify.

That’s 200,000 more streams than any other members of the Top 7 has enjoyed.

The day after its release, Jamal’s version of “Heal” reached number one on the Apple Music overall singles chart.

In a June appearance on the Portia Show, Jamal said he had never heard the song before American Idol.

“We had a list of songs we had to chose from and I’m like, ‘I’m a church kid. I don’t know none of these songs,” he recalled.

“But then I said, ‘Okay, let me listen to this (‘Heal’). I heard the simplicity of it and it was like having a conversation with God.”

Each member of the Top 7 released a single in conjunction with the Idol Season 23 finale. They’re a mix of originals and covers.

The second most popular to date is Slater Nalley’s “Traces of You,” a song he wrote about Carter Davis, a teenager shot and murdered in Georgia back in 2016.

Slater performed the song during an emotional audition for Idol, with Carter’s mom looking on. The single has now been steams more than 540,000 times on Spotify. He finished Top 5 on the show.
