Aarik Duncan of The Voice Season 28

Aarik Duncan of The Voice Season 28

His audition: Aarik Duncan, 38, of Raleigh, N.C., performed “Birds of a Feather” by Billie Eilish. It was an interesting song choice and Aarik sounded very nervous on the opening,. But the performance got stronger as the song went on. Michael Buble turned midway through and wound up getting Aarik for his team since he was the only coach to turn. Michael said Aarik has the type of voice you’d immediately recognize on the radio. And Michael reminded Aarik that he just won Season 27 with a one-chair turn.

Here’s more about Aarik:

* He’s a singer, songswriter and producer from Akron, Ohio who is now based in Raleigh, N.C.

* In his Spotify bio, his sound is described as “rooted in the soul of alternative and indie” music” and Aarik is described as a “lover and pusher of good vibes.”

* Aarik has released lots of music, including four full albums of covers between 2020 and 2024.

* He’s also released a Christmas EP and two other albums — “I Like Myself” and “EchoLov3.” The latter is a 10-song collection the dropped earlier this month. Check out Aarik singing a snippet of “Clearview” from that album below.

* Aarik calls the album “an honest look at self-discovery, designed to resonate deeply and invite listeners to explore their own journey.”

* On social media, he adds: “Every note on ECHOLOV3 carries a piece of my journey, long nights turned into melodies, heartbreak pressed into harmony, hope stitched between verses. It’s not just an album, it’s my reflection, my release, my love letter to the dreamers who keep moving even when the weight gets heavy.”

* Aarik has already held a release party and is planning an Oct. 30 show called the EchoLov3 Experience at The Pour House in Raleigh.

* Oh, and get this, the cover of the new album was designed by Aarik’s 11-year-old daughter Madison.

* He’s also been part of a band NiiTO with his brother Josh where Aarik sings and plays piccaolo bass. NiiTo describes its sound as blurring the lines between R&B, pop, funk, soul, jazz and blues.

* NiiTO began releasing music in 2018, dropped a self-titled EP in 2021 and a 14-song album called “The Ardency of a PaperTown” in 2022.

* According to his Facebook bio, Aarik has served as music adminstrator for Interstate Ministries and studied jazz at North Carolina Central University.

* And in addition to bass guitar, he plays keyboards and drums.
