Jakob Stobaugh of American Idol Season 24

Jakob Stobaugh is among the artists who have announced that they auditioned for Season 24 of American Idol.

Idol returns to ABC on Monday, Jan. 26 with the judging trio of Luke Bryan, Lionel Richie and Carrie Underwood.

Here’s more about Jakob:

* He’s a 25-year-old country singer from Schertz, Texas.

* He’s been performing with Rey Roges as a country duet called Jake N Rey.

* They released their first single — “Summer Nights” — in July.

* But they’re also preparing to release solo singles. Rey is promising a song called “Better Me;” Jakob has posted a snippet of an original called “Change’s Serenade.”

* In a Go Fund Me to help finance his Idol adventure, Jakob says he’s been singing in church “for as long as I can remember” and decided to pursue music professionally around age 13.

* Jakob told MySA (San Antonio) that he’s always wanted to audition for a show like Idol and finally “got the gumption up” to film an audition video one day after a show.

* His audition included covers of songs by Vince Gill, Morgan Wallen and Chris Stapleton. Check out Jake N Rey’s cover of Morgan Wallen’s “Whiskey Glasses” below.

* But he’s also been branching out in recent Instagram posts and TikTok videos, showing off his big voice on covers of songs by Train, My Chemical Romance and The Goo Goo Dolls.

* He’s also got a big personality. In one promo video, he refers to his country duet as “the fat Morgan Wallen and the black Luke Combs.”
