Landon Hughes of American Idol Season 24
Idol returned to ABC on Monday, Jan. 26 with the judging trio of Luke Bryan, Carrie Underwood and Lionel Richie. The final audition episode airs Monday.
Here’s more about Landon:
* He’s from Hazard, Kentucky, and calls himself “American Idol’s first bluegrass picker.” And judging from Season 24 promos, his audition went well.
* Landon also just released his debut single, a impressive, upbeat song called “Coal Town” that hit streaming sites on Jan. 5.
* In his web bio, Landon says he grew up around music. His mom and her siblings “are great musicians and were massive inspirations for me growing up,” he writes.
* He also credits his mom for putting him in piano lessons when he was just 5 years old, saying it “completely changed my life trajectory” and inspired him to create music.
* Landon graduated from Hazard High School in the spring of 2024 and attends Lake Erie College near Cleveland where he plays soccer. In fact, he received a full-ride scholarship to Lake Erie, writing it was always his dream to play soccer at the collegiate level.
* As for his style of music and his appreciation for bluegrass, Landon admits on his website that it wasn’t always that way. That he went through a phase where “I tried to live in an alternate reality where I wasn’t from Appalachia.”
* Adds Landon: “Now when I hear bluegrass, I am transported back home to the place and people that I love. I am a proud Kentuckian, I’m Appalachian, and I flat pick a damn guitar. May generations of Appalachians be impacted by OUR music and let it hold a special place in their hearts as it does in mine.”
* Landon has nearly 750 followers and nearly 10,000 likes on his TikTok, where his most popular video is a cover of “Soulshine” by The Allman Brothers.
