Her audition: Kyndal, 29, Nashville, Tenn., 29, Fishers, Indiana, “Prayer of a Trying Daughter” (an original): Her rasp and emotional singer-songwriter vibe is impressive. Before she sang, a 16-year-old singer-songwriter named Lainey Grace auditioned with Kyndal’s song “Honest.” Kyndal joined Lainey on the Idol stage. Then she performed another great original for her own audition. Carrie says Kyndal “has the stuff.” Lionel Richie says she has “artist written all over you.” Luke Bryan likes her range. Kyndal got three yeses for a golden ticket.

Here’s more about Kyndal:

* She’s Kyndal Inskeep. She’s from Fishers, Indiana, but is now Nashville based. And the name might be familiar to singing show fans.

* Kyndal auditioned for Season 17 of The Voice at age 22 in the fall of 2019. She turned three chairs in the blinds and made it all the way to the live playoffs, despite admitting to Voice Views that singing covers “is not my forte.”

* Her forte is delivering raw honesty in song with her unique raspy vocals. And she’s done that wonderfully on the originals she’s released since leaving the show.

* She released three brilliants singles in 2020 — “The Letter,” “Honest” and “Parachute.” The latter two were in conjunction with Song House in Nashville. Both of them have more than 16 million streams on Spotify.

* Shortening her stage name to just Kyndal, she’s kept the music flowing with six new songs in the last year. They include “Voices,” a song about her struggle with anxiety; the wonderfully addictive “Hate to Break It,” the wonderfully emotive “What Am I Doing Here?” and, most recently, “Woman of Me,” a tribute to her mother.

* What has slowed down are the streaming numbers. And in a poignant December social media post, Kyndal admits that bothered her, a lot. And she writes that she came to resent “Honest,” her most successful song, because it became “a reminder of the gift I thought I failed to steward.”

* But she sings “Honest” in that same post writing, in part: “The wait is worth the weight … My identity if found in Jesus, not in the rise and fall of my career … And my dreams are definitely not dead.”

* Kyndal also had another reason to celebrate in 2025. She got married in October.

* Kyndal already has more than 200,000 followers and 3.7 million likes on her TikTok. She didn’t announce her Idol audition until earlier this week, but it appears she might appear on the season premiere Monday night.
