Idol Chatter & Voice Views

Her audition: Brooklyn Marie, 14, Alexandria, Minnesota, “Traitor” by Olivia Rodrigo: Brooklyn’s vulnerable delivery earned a quick chair turn from Queen Latifah. Oh, my, Brooklyn is absolutely adorable and talented. Kelly Clarkson turned and is clearly shocked by Brooklyn’s youth. Queen Latifah said her voice sounded special “right away” and praised her ending as well. Kelly was startled to realize Brooklyn is so young, reminded her that she loves working with young contestants and knows how to navigate a singing show. Brooklyn opted to join Team Kelly.

Here’s more about Brooklyn:

* She’s Brooklyn Marie Ostlund, a very young singer-songwriter from central Minnesota with music out and lots of performance experience.

* On Spotify, she describes her music as “blending heartfelt songwriting with acoustic-driven pop and country influences.”

* She released her first two singles, “Tired” and “i miss u” earlier this year. She also released a music video for the impressive “Tired,” which you can check out below.

* On her website, she says she is one of four children and “that big-family energy is part of why a live show feels like a room full of friends to me.”

* You’ll find a couple of other originals on Brooklyn Marie’s website as well as some covers. And she has a very impressive cover of Olivia Rodrigo’s “Traitor” on her social media.

* In a get-to-know me post from this spring, she writes “Music is my heart, and who better to inspire me than the queen herself, @taylorswift.” Yep, Taylor is her favorite artist.

* She accompanies herself on guitar and apparently plays other instruments as well. According to her Voice bio segment, she’s been performing gigs since age 11.

* Brooklyn writes that she also enjoys spending time with her “adorable bunnies and chickens” and she celebrated on social media this summer when one of the mother chickens had two little chicks, which wound up with the names Sparkles and Diamond.
