I got so wrapped up in doing my own Year in Review last week (check out all six blogs here), that I neglected to let everyone know where the Idols landed on Billboard’s year-end charts.
Considering how slow 2011 started in terms of new music releases from past Idol finalists, more than I expected made that year-end countdown.
One thing the list below won’t show: Judges were very successful in using their singing show gigs to launch new music.
Jennifer Lopez, an afterthought prior to becoming an Idol judge, shows up at number 43 on the top artists list. Her “On the Floor” single checked in at number 11 on the full-year Hot 100 countdown, and her album was number 119 on the cumulative Billboard 200 countdown.
She wasn’t alone. Remember when Christina Aguilera and Adam Levine of Maroon 5 debuted “Moves Like Jagger” on The Voice? That song wound up number 9 on the final Hot 100 countdown.
Anyway, on to the Idols and where they finished on the major charts. You can head here for the full list.
