Season seven Idols have been making all sorts of music news lately.
David Cook just performed at the Major League All-Star Home Run Derby.
Brooke White and Michael Johns just released albums. Carly Smithson joined a new band.
Ever wonder what became of David Hernandez, the guy who finished 12th on Idol last year.
No?
Well, I’m going to fill you in anyway.
David and three other former Idol contestants
recently performed in Vegas as part of a show called “Idolized.”
And producer Barrie Cunningham is hoping to make the show a fixture on the Vegas strip.
The concept is simple. Each of the four performers takes the stage for about 20 minutes, singing a mix of covers and original songs. Then they unite at the end for a grand finale.
Joining David for a series of July 4 weekend shows in Vegas were Jasmine Trias (3rd place, season three), Nikki McKibbin (3rd place, season one; last seen on VH1’s “Sober House”) and Mikalah Gordon (11th place, season four).
Actually, David was a last-minute replacement for R.J. Helton, who had to cancel for medical reasons, according to a story in the Las Vegas Review-Journal.
But David apparently enjoyed himself. He has posted a batch of photos from the show on his MySpace page.
Meanwhile, I e-mailed Cunningham to ask how “Idolized” went.
His response: “The shows went great. We do plan more shows in Vegas. Dates and location TBA. We are actually looking for a permanent room for the show in Vegas.”
So, next time you’re vacationing in Vegas, you might be able to catch some former Idols in action.
