Can frat boy Kyle Crews go from “The Magical Mrs. Piggle Wiggle” to American Idol champ?
That’s what the University of California Berkeley student will be attempting after getting his golden ticket to Hollywood in the San Diego audition episode.
“The Magical Mrs. Piggle Wiggle,” you ask?
Apparently, that’s the first musical theater performance Kyle participated in, back when he was 8 years old.
He was 19 at the time of the Idol audition.
In his golden ticket interview, Kyle describes himself as a “gentle giant.” He describes himself as “a 6-foot-3 Jewish male who sings R&B” and is also in an a cappella group.
His favorite Idol contestant is Season 7 runner-up David Archuleta, who Kyle says seems like a really nice guy. “That’s what I strive to be,” he adds.
Oh, and he told Idol he also has a habit of serenading every pretty girl who stops by the frat house.
Perhaps that explains his Idol song choice, “Angel of Mine,” which he dedicated to Jennifer Lopez and her voluptuous lips.
Regardless, it worked for the judges, though Randy Jackson suggested Kyle go shopping for a new wardrobe and work on his “star vibe.”
But Steven Tyler had words of high praise, proclaiming Kyle “the best male voice we’ve heard so far.”
