Lots of contestants classify receiving a golden ticket to Hollywood on American Idol as a pleasant surprise.

Cari Quoyeser said her feeling after auditioning and advancing was one of “sheer relief.”

Perhaps that’s because of high expectations. She’s not exactly a novice at this music business.

She has sung lead vocals and played rhythm guitar for a group called Suburban Warfare.  She heads a group called the Cari Q Band.

She also writes on MySpace that she’s been working on a solo project, and she classifies her music as alternative/classic rock/indie.

As for that last name, it’s pronounced “Kwoy-zer,” she explains.

In her golden ticket interview, Cari makes reference to growing up in “an unconventional way. I had to raise myself to a certain extent.”

That included attending about 10 different schools.

Oh, and talk about versatility — Cari says she’s also a cheerleader of sorts for the Houston Texans, as a singer.

Why is she the next American Idol?

“Like the people before me I have a purpose and a need to do this,” she says.  “So many things have fallen into place in my life when it seemed like I had nothing going for me.”

According to her Facebook page, Cari is a barista at the Empire Cafe in Houston and a member of the Class of 2013 at the University of Texas at Austin.
