Season 11, Season 11 Hollywood Week

Trust the singing and little else from Hollywood Week

In a conference call a week ago, American Idol executive producer Nigel Lythgoe promised us we’d meet new contestants during Hollywood Week.

Well, we met two very talented female singers during the first episode from Group Night, though you’d never know how talented they were from watching the episode because no one performed.

Brielle Von Hugel was cast as a control freak, a Hollywood Week veteran who immediately took control of her group under her mother’s watchful eye.

Maybe the other group members were willing to listen because she helped Pia Toscano and Alessandra Guercio slay “Grenade” in one of last year’s best Group Day performances.  Just check out the video above.

Cari Quoyeser (that’s pronounced Kwoy-zer) was cast as a bit of a diva, more interested in resting her voice than concerned that a fellow Betties team member felt totally unprepared for Group Day.  But, heck, it was after 3 a.m.

And Cari might know her voice pretty well considering she performs in two bands and has a slew of pretty impressive original songs on Facebook.  Make sure to check out “Hell’s Horses.”

You can hear more of their music in my profiles of Cari and Brielle

But, bottom line, don’t put too much stock in Idol’s characterization of contestants — even crazy cowboys — during the Hollywood episodes.

I just watched a video where Alisha Bernhardt — the cop who had trouble finding a group last week — wasn’t thrilled with the way she was portrayed on the show.

That cop by the way works around kids all day in the Indianapolis Public Schools.
