Molly Hunt, Season 11

Meet American Idol contestant Molly Hunt

We saw a snippet of Molly Hunt in American Idol’s Savannah audition episode back in January.

But we saw little more of the 15-year-old during subsequent episodes.

Which is surprising, considering the show’s affinity for young contestants and that Molly made it all the way to Vegas in the face of a very crowded field of talented female contestants.

Molly was eliminated from Idol on group night in Vegas.

So she responded the way she says any singer-songwriter would:  By posting a new song this morning on Facebook.

It’s called “Where Do I Fit In.”  It’s a dandy.  And it’s an indication that we’ll probably be hearing more from Molly in the future.

Songwriting isn’t new to Molly.  In fact, she won first place in the country category of the USA Songwriting Competition, becoming the youngest person to accomplish that feat in the contest’s 16-year history.

The song was “Go There,” co-written by Troy Johnson and Jack Williams.

Below, I’ve embedded that song along with “Where Do I Fit In.”  And you can hear more Molly by heading to her Facebook page and clicking on band profile. She has five songs there; I suspect they’re all originals.

In her golden ticket interview, Molly told Idol she started singing at age 6 in church, where her mom was a member of the worship team.  The children’s pastor thought young Molly sang pretty well, too.

“So I ended up singing for all children at church,” she recalls.  “It was awesome. It just took that one pastor to say, ‘You’ve got that gift and I believe in you.'”

And, presto, a future singer-songwriter was born.

Molly says on Facebook she doesn’t want to be just another songwriter.

“I don’t want to be cookie cutter, a ditto of a voice that’s already on the radio or write songs that are a variation of what’s been recorded already,” she writes. “True music lovers are always craving more, different, fresh, new material.  I feel my style of voice and songs ARE different … Give me a listen … let me know what you think.”

So here are those promised Molly songs to listen to.  Molly also has a page on Reverbnation.

Editor’s Note:  My profiles of American Idol contestants omitted five Vegas contestants, including Molly. Coming later today: Josh Sanders, Amber Holcomb, Tenna Torres and Marissa Pontecorvo.
