Six Idols ranked among the top 100 artists in terms of album success and singles success in 2009, according to year-ending charts recently posted by Billboard.
And leading the lists of Idols on each chart was a performer who played the York Fair in September.
Kelly Clarkson was the most successful Idol on the year-ending Hot 100 singles chart, checking in at number 14. She also has three singles listed on the year-ending Hot 100 songs chart.
She also ranked number 14 among top overall artists of 2009. Taylor Swift, Beyonce and Lady Gaga finished one, two and three, respectively, on that list.
David Cook was the most successful Idol of 2009 in terms of album sales. He’s listed at number 14 on the year-ending Billboard 200 chart. His debut album finished one spot higher, at number 13, among top-selling albums of 2009.

Also cracking the Hot 100 list of artists for singles success were Carrie Underwood at number 50, Daughtry at 56, Jordin Sparks at 57, David Cook at 66 and Kellie Pickler at 96.
Also cracking the top 100 for album sales were Daughtry at number 20, Carrie Underwood at 21, Kelly Clarkson at 35, David Archuleta at 52 and Jennifer Hudson at 94.
The country album sales chart has Carrie at number five and Kellie at number 26.
So who topped the top artists charts?
This will hardly be a surprise. The top singles’ artist was Lady Gaga; tops in albums sales was Taylor Swift, of course.
