There’s an interesting little battle under way at the top of the Billboard country music charts.

Carrie Underwood has watched 14 straight singles hit number one of number two on the country singles chart.

“Good Girl,” her first single from her current album, made it all the way to number one.

Last week, her second single from that album, “Blown Away,” moved up from number four to number three, one spot away from extending that streak.

But standing in Carrie’s way is a formidable obstacle, Taylor Swift, who holds down the number one position with “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together Again” and the number two position with “Red.”

And this is a newly reconfigured Billboard country singles chart. Last week marked the first time the rankings weren’t based solely on radio airplay. They now also take into account digital download sales and streaming data.

With that change and the Oct. 22 release date for Taylor’s new album approaching, “Blown Away” might have reached its peak.

Other chart news of note:

* Benefiting from the same changes on the rock singles chart, Phillip Phillips watched “Home” soar from number 42 to number 3. “Home” is also in the top 10 on the adult pop song and adult contemporary charts.

* Jason Castro’s new song “Only a Mountain” has reached a new peak of 20 on the Christian singles chart, up two spots from a week ago.

* And you won’t find it on the Idol listing below, but Chris Rene’s EP debuted at a not-so-exciting number 55 on the Billboard 200. Chris is the guy who finished third on the first season of The X Factor.
