Five reviews are in, and chalk up five mostly positive reviews for Phillip Phillips.
Phillip’s debut album, “The World from the Other Side of the Moon,” went on sale Monday.
Here’s a look at the reviews, so far.
EW.com: Gives Phillip a B. “Given the double-platinum success of ‘Home,’ it’s no surprise that much of Phillips’ debut sounds similarly, appealingly Mumford-esque. His raspy Georgia drawl turns evocative campfire sing-alongs (”Gone, Gone, Gone,” ”Can’t Go Wrong”) into stadium-size anthems.
Billboard.com: Generally positive, saying “Phillips sounds natural enough within that style (read Dave Matthews), more acolyte than imitator, which makes the album one of the more engaging champion debuts in the show’s inconsistent history.”
Newsday: Gives Phillip a B, saying “as his smash ‘Home’ has shown, Phillips can’t really miss, and his debut offers more like that — in the catchy ‘So Easy’ and ‘Can’t Go Wrong.'”
Journal-Sentinel Online: Generally positive. “The songs are among the meatiest and most mature to emerge from an “Idol” winner’s first post-show album … Combined with gruff but warm vocals, Phillips just might have what it takes to become an American idol after all.”
Knoxville.com: Gives Phillip 3.5 stars out of 5, saying, “There’s nothing particularly bad on ‘The World From the Side of the Moon,’ and Phillips’ delivery always shines. And at age 22, he’s likely got plenty of time to improve.”
