Idols on the music charts

Is anyone surprised?

Her new single, “Cowboy Casanova,” bolts from number 26 to 18 on the Billboard country singles chart this week. Bound for a spot somewhere in the top 10, I’m sure.

I mean, all five singles — that’s right, five — from “Carnival Ride” made it to number one or number two.

“Cowboy Casanova” is the lead single off her new album, “Play Out,” due out Nov. 3.

And Carrie’s now a proud member of the Oklahoma Music Hall of Fame. Her induction was last night.

Here’s how the other Idols are doing on the music charts.

American Idol Season Eight: The Idol summer tour ended this week, so perhaps it’s appropriate that the season eight soundtrack featuring the top 10 finalists plummeted to 196 on the Billboard 200. It debuted at number 34 and was pretty much in free fall from that point on. My theory remains that it included two too many versions of Kara DioGuardi’s “No Boundaries” fiasco.

Kelly Clarkson: Don’t look now, but “Already Gone” is making a big move up the charts. The third single from Kelly’s fourth album (and a tune she performed during her York Fair show) is 35 on the Billboard Hot 100, up from 42. It’s also 26 on the pop singles chart. The “All I Ever Wanted” album is 83 this week, down from 74, on the Billboard 200.

David Cook: His latest single holds at number 18 on the adult contemporary chart this week. It’s 97 on the Hot 100, down six spots from a week ago. David’s debut album is now 169 on the Billboard 200, down from 153.

Daughtry: “Leave This Town,” the band’s new album, clings to a top 20 spot — at number 20 — on the Billboard 200 for the second straight week. “No Surprise” is number nine among pop singles for the third straight week. And Daughtry’s debut album is still number 130 on the Billboard 200.

Jennifer Hudson: “If This Isn’t Love” is number 46 on the R&B singles chart, down two spots from a week ago. A new tidbit on Jennifer “Diva” Hudson: She’ll perform a free concert in Central Park on Sept. 29, interpreting songs from the “Wizard of Oz” soundtrack in honor of the film’s 70th anniversary.

Kellie Pickler: Her self-titled second album drops from number 115 to 143 on the Billboard 200. Note to Kellie: Please release “Rocks Instead of Rice” as a single.

Jordin Sparks: The “Battlefield” single has been in the top 10 on the pop singles chart for six weeks, but seems stuck at number seven. It’s been in that position for four straight weeks. It’s number 16 on the Hot 100. The “Battlefield” album, however, fell all the way from 84 to 105 on the Billboard 200.

Phil Stacey: His single, “If You’re Not Shaken,” has been in the top 20 on the Christian songs chart for seven weeks. This week, it’s number 19, down from 18.
