Busy preparing for an upcoming role in NBC’s version of “The Sound of Music,” Carrie Underwood will also perform on TVs biggest night.
As part of Sunday’s broadcast, the Emmy folks are planning a tribute marking the 50th anniversary of two TV milestones — the coverage of John F. Kennedy’s assassination and The Beatles appearance on the Ed Sullivan show.
As part of that tribute, Carrie “will honor the music of the era with a special performance,” according to the Emmy announcement.
“To have an opportunity to look back at a time that represented television’s finest hour in a program that celebrates so many of this year’s achievements is what makes the Emmys special,” said Executive Producer Ken Ehrlich. “We are certain that viewers will enjoy this special tribute.”
Singing show fans have another reason to watch Sunday’s 8 p.m. broadcast on CBS.
The Voice is nominated for best reality competition show, along with “The Amazing Race,” “Dancing with the Stars,” “Project Runway,” “So You Think You Can Dance” and “Top Chef.”
As for the “Sound of Music,” that’s set to air Dec. 5, and NBC announced more of the cast this week, and released a poster to promote the show.
