American Idol is offering $50,000 to the person who finds the show’s new winner.

FOX announced what it’s calling the “American Idol True Believer” initiative on Tuesday, the day before the first series of auditions in Minneapolis.

The contest recognizes that sometimes “a talented singer just needs someone to give them a little extra encouragement to help them achieve their dreams.”

American Idol is encouraging folks to nudge talented singers they know toward auditioning.

If they audition and win the show, that nudge could be worth $50,000.

Here’s how it will work.

At some point during Season 14, the top contestants will be asked to name one “true believer” who has inspired them. That person can’t be the parent or guardian.

Contestants won’t be forced to name a “true believer.” If someone wins who hasn’t named one, the $50,000 will go to a charity of the sponsor’s choice.

For complete rules, head here.

I’m just wondering if those inspirational individuals will also get a new Ford, as they have in the past.

After tomorrow’s auditions in Minneapolis, Idol heads to New Orleans’s Lakefront Arena next weekend.

Then the small town bus tour kicks off July 9.
