An American Idol season finale wouldn’t be complete with lots of guests performances and duets, the latter matching music stars and Idol cast members.
The Season 14 finale was no different. Here are my picks for the best and worst.
Best duet: From a vocal standpoint, the honor goes to Jamie Foxx and Rayvon Owen on a very nice performance of “In Love By Now.” Rayvon certainly held his own.
Runner-up best duet: Nick Fradiani looked perfectly at home, and as though he was having tons of fun singing “Back Home” and “Honey, I’m Good” with Andy Grammer.
Best reckless abandon: Put Steven Tyler and Jax together on stage, ask them to perform “Pieces of My Heart,” and reckless abandon is what you’re going to get. They would up flat on their backs on the judges’ table, belting out the tune.
Best costume for a group performance: Check out what Joey Cook (below) donned when the Idol gals took the stage to perform with Nile Rodgers and Chic. She looked like a purple-headed bird.
Most invisible Idol: Did Adanna Duru really sing during Janelle Monae’s performance of “Yoga,” or did she just dance along?
Runner-up worst train wreck: The Jacksons performed a medley of their hits. It wasn’t good. Poor Tyanna Jones got mixed up in the mess.
Worst train wreck: Putting young Daniel Seavey on stage with the no longer very New Kids on the Block might have been the worst idea in Idol history. And it might have resulted in the worst finale performance in Idol history. That was painful to watch.
