Remember Andi & Alex from Season 9 of The Voice? The twins from Green Bay who said “something big” had to happen for them to keep singing together?
Well, something big happened in the form of The Voice because they made it all the way to the knockout round, becoming the most successful duet to appear on the show since Dawn and Hawkes in Season 6.
And big things keep happening.
The young women performed the national anthem earlier this year when the Green Bay Packers hosted the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday Night Football.
And they played their biggest concert ever, a sold-out homecoming show of sorts at the 1,000-plus seat Meyer Theatre in Green Bay over the weekend.
Their reaction on Twitter: “Green Bay! Wow, what an AMAZING night. Thank You!!”
The feedback on Facebook was pretty amazing too. A sampling:
Molly Mayer: “What an amazing night! It was so good to see you girls again!! Can’t wait for the next show!”
Sue Frisque: “The show was amazing!! You ladies are so humble and nice to everyone!! Great meet and greet after the awesome show!!”
Pam Loch: “Amazing show!!!! Wished we could download the songs you sang!!!!”
Vickie Lison: “Can’t wait to hear more.”
Speaking of which, the twins told The Green Bay Press Gazette that they hope to record an EP in February. You can read that story here.
Pre-Voice, they sang together in an alternative rock band called She The Monster. After their blind audition aired, Andi said they were still working on developing their own sound, but that it would probably be less electronic and more acoustic than the She The Monster music “to fit our softer voices.”
One of the great mysteries from The Voice Season 9 is why the twins weren’t brought back for Top 24 night. Each coach got to bring back one artist who had been previously eliminated for that show.
By that point, Adam Levine would have known that Andi & Alex scored the biggest iTunes hit from the blind audition. And that they repeated that feat during the battle round, when Adam declared them the winners over Chance Pena on a cover of “Wherever You Will Go.”
But when it came time to bring back a singer for the Top 24 show, Adam brought back Chance, a talented youngster for sure, but a singer whose blind audition performance didn’t even crack the Top 200 on iTunes.
Huh? It made no sense at all.
Though I’d note that Andi & Alex outperformed Team Adam and show favorite Jordan Smith on iTunes during both of those first two rounds.
Below is an audio clip from the twins’ performance at the Meyer Theatre. I, too, can’t wait to hear more.
