On Sunday, Josh Kaufman posted a photo of himself meeting Florence Henderson at the Indy 500.

An Indianapolis resident, he got to perform “Back Home Again in Indiana” with the Indianapolis Children’s Choir prior to the 100th running of the Indy 500.

Sunday also marked the belated release of his single, “Truth Be Told.” The song was supposed to hit iTunes on Friday, but ran into the same type of delay encountered by many releases from independent artists.

It’s the first song Josh has released since winning Season 6 of The Voice a little more than two years ago. It’s also the first song from an upcoming, self-titled six-track EP.

The EP is due June 17, and pre-orders are underway on iTunes.

Why the long delay between his Voice victory and the release of new music?

Well, for one thing, shortly after The Voice, Josh wound up performing the lead role in “Pippin” on Broadway for a couple of months.

In a recent interview at KristiLeeNews.com, Josh said he’s been working on the EP for about a year and said the songs on it are “rooted in a classic soul sound.”

“I worked on a lot of new music this past year, and I pretty much have two EPs, I’d like to put out,” Josh said in that interview. “This first one falls into the Sam Smith-Adele sort of vein, strings, acoustic guitar. The other stuff we worked on is really rooted in late 80s and early 90s soul/R&B, Michael Jackson, Janet Jackson type stuff with a lot of electronic sounds.”

Josh also said he’ll be touring once the EP is released, but said the details on where and when haven’t been worked out yet.
