Last night, I wondered if Idol might have a trick up its sleeve and find some way to bring Chris Medina back into the competition.
That looks less likely now, because Chris is wasting no time moving on.
Friday, he’ll appear on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno. He’s already listed on the show’s official website as a guest.
The official press release indicates he’ll be singing a new song, “What About Words,” inspired by his pre-Idol story.
The release also indicates that the song will soon be available for download from iTunes, perhaps as soon as sometime Thursday. It was not available as of 1 p.m.
According to a Twitter account run by three friends, Chris sent out the following message via his personal Facebook last night: “Tried my hardest guys:-( thank you for all your support. and don’t worry… it’s not the end of me:-)”
And his Facebook fan page is filled with fans disappointed to see him get the Idol boot.
Sorry, but you can’t count me among them. I was touched by Chris’ back story and the way his stood by fiancee Juliana Ramos and helped care for her after a crash left her severely injured.
I was less impressed by his vocal performances on Idol.
But he bowed out gracefully, even proclaiming that Juliana is now more popular than he is and telling the judges how much it meant for her to meet them.
His comment following elimination: “Now I’m gonna go home and keep writing music, take care of my fiancee and make a miracle happen.”
One can’t help but wish Chris and Juliana the best of luck.
Editor’s note: I linked to it last night, but if you missed it, check out this story from the Chicago Tribune about the effect the Idol experience has had on Juliana.
