Michael Kight showed up on The Voice hoping to transition to from a sideman on stage to a frontman.

Before auditioning for The Voice, he’d played guitar for Season 3 standout Amber Carrington and helped produce Caroline Glaser’s debut album.

Pretty soon, if all goes as planned, he told Voice Views he’ll have his own debut project to talk about.

Michael hails from Dublin, Ga., lives in Nashville and was 25 when he auditioned for Season 13.

He performed Maroon 5’s “Sugar” to land a spot on the show — Team Adam Levine, no less — but was eliminated following a battle round performance of “I Feel It Coming” with Anthony Alexander.

Here’s what Michael told Voice Views about his time on the show and his music moving forward.

Voice Views: I know the battles were filmed a while back. What have you been doing musically since then?

Michael: Since the battles, I’ve been wrapping up my songs! I’ve been producing/writing my EP for the last year. I’ve got some singles ready that I’m super pumped about! I’ve also been working with a couple other artists from this season on some of their music too. It’s been such an awesome year.

Voice Views: Where do you see The Voice experience taking you musically?

Michael: The Voice experience helped me take my confidence and stage presence up to another level. Getting that validation from Adam (Levine) and the other coaches is really all I needed. Now I’m super pumped to hit the road and play my songs.

Voice Views: I don’t believe you’ve released any music yet. Do you see that happening in the near future? If so, what can folks expect in terms of sound / genre?

Michael: I will definitely be releasing some music! I have been describing it as groovy, organic, pop. I’ve been producing it, and collaborating with some of my musician friends. There’s groovy drums, soulful & funky guitars, and smooth vocals. I’m excited about it!!

Voice Views: Other than the friends you met and made while participating in the show and the hometown support, what do you think will stick with you about The Voice experience?

Michael: The one thing I’ll never forget is Adam Levine telling me I’m a “freakin great singer”. Best validation I could’ve asked for this year.

Voice Views: Do you think you grew as an artist? If so, in what way?’

Michael: This experience definitely helped me grow! I carry myself with way more confidence now, and I feel extremely ready for the music industry. I feel like I got exactly what I needed.
