Former The Voice contestant Jason Warrior captured one of the four coveted chairs on The Four Thursday night.
The question now is whether he can hold onto that seat. Or, more specifically, whether he can hold onto it for four weeks to win the grand prize of a recording contract and a chance to work with Charlie Walk, Meghan Trainor, Sean “Diddy” Combs and DJ Khaled.
Jason would appear to face long odds. There have been six challenges on The Four so far. Only once has a member of The Four successfully defended their chair.
On the plus side, Jason got to close the week two episode and got high praise from the judges.
Charlie Walk proclaimed “this is the show I signed up for” after Jason’s audition. “Diddy” said he was especially impressed with the vulnerability Jason showed as a performer.
Jason introduced himself as a 22-year-old from Chicago who had to play role model for his younger brothers because his father, a rapper, made bad decisions and would up in prison.
He said his mother made a lot of sacrifices for the family and especially so he could pursue his dream of becoming a musician.
“I came here to The Four because I need that opportunity to say ‘Thank you, mom. Thank you.'” Jason told the celebrity panel,
He auditioned with an emotional performance of “Love Me Now” by John Legend, After the celebrity panel unanimously approved a challenge, Jason decided to take on Saeed Renauo, who had won a seat on The Four in the season premiere.
Saeed performed Stevie Wonder’s “Superstition.” Jason countered with “Radioactive” by Imagine Dragons.
And after the audience voted, Jason took over Saeed’s spot in the chairs.
On Facebook, Jason gave “all the praise and all the honor to the man above” and thanked fans for their support.
His version of “Radioactive” is available on iTunes.
Jason competed on Season 11 of The Voice in the fall of 2016, turning two chairs with his blind audition and advancing to the Top 20 (live playoffs) before being eliminated.
