Blake won the night’s biggest award for the music video to “I’ll Name the Dogs.” That video also earned him Male Video of the Year honors.
But he wasn’t the only winner with singing show connections.
Carrie Underwood, the all-time leader in CMT awards heading into the night, added an 18th. She earned Female Video of the Year honors for “The Champion,” the song she recorded for the 2018 Super Bowl that also featured Ludacris.
And Lauren Alaina shared a CMT Award for “What Ifs” with Kane Brown, the official lead on the track.
The show also featured performances by Carrie (her new single “Cry Pretty), Blake (“Turn Me On” performed at his new Nashville club Ole Red) and Kelly Clarkson (a cover of “American Woman).
All of the awards are determined by fans voting. Five videos had been nominated in each category except Video of the Year, which had a field of 10 nominees whittled to five at the beginning of Wednesday’s show.
Other Video of the Year finalists included “What Ifs” by Kane and Lauren, Brett Young’s “Mercy,” Luke Combs’ “When It Rains It Pours” and Thomas Rhett’s “Marry Me.”
Here’s a red carpet photo gallery from the show.
