Blake Shelton emerged as the king of the Cross Battles over the past two weeks on The Voice.

And you have to wonder whether what transpired will give future contestants second thoughts about joining Team Adam Levine.

First, there’s Blake. His contestants won six of their eight cross battles over the past two weeks with Andrew Sevener, Gyth Rigdon and Carter Lloyd Horne all emerging victorious Tuesday night.

And, remember, Blake saved Selkii last week. That means he lost just one singer — Karly Moreno — during the cross battles and picked up one via steal (Kendra Checketts), giving him eight artists in next week’s 24-singer live playoffs.

Turns out the cross battles were a wash for John Legend and Kelly Clarkson. Their singers won four battles and lost four battles.

As a result, each will have six singers in the live playoffs next week, just as they would have under the old knockout rules.

Then there’s Adam. His singers won just two of eight cross battle matches in the past two weeks. He managed to lose both members of his team who turned four chairs during the blind audition (Celia Balbini and L.B. Crew).

And after entering the cross battles with the strongest team based on blind audition chair turns, he leaves with just four artists. Just four. That includes one he saved from elimination and one he stole.

If The Voice decides to ditch the cross battles after one season — and they should only be retained with serious tweaks to the format — my guess is the egos of the coaches will be the reason.

The Voice loves its coaches, way more than it loves its contestants.

And Adam exits the cross battles with a scarlet L branded on his forehead. And it doesn’t stand for Levine.
