The stars came out for The Voice Season 16 grand finale Tuesday night.

Viewers stayed away.

The Voice logged its worst ever finale ratings for a Tuesday show that featured guest appearances from Taylor Swift, The Jonas Brothers, Halsey, One Republic and BTS.

And those worst-ever ratings weren’t by a small margin either.

The show’s previous low rating was a 1.5 among 18-49 year olds last spring, with a total audience of 8.77.

Tuesday’s ratings plummeted to a 1.1 rating and total viewership of 7.42 million viewers.

The Voice didn’t even win the night. That distinction went to NCIS on CBS with nearly 12 million viewers.

Of course none of the aforementioned guest performances had anything to do with Season 16 of The Voice.

And the show’s Top 4 — supposedly the stars of the night — took the stage just once apiece.

Now, American Idol’s finale ratings dropped too, from 1.6 in Season 16 to 1.5 in Season 17.

But the show actually grew total viewers by a small margin, 8.74 million this spring to 8.63 million last spring.

And Idol did that despite going head to head with the series finale of Game of Thrones.

Job well done, American Idol.

As for Carson and his Voice co-producers, it’s time to go back to basics and reinvent The Voice as a show that put contestants first.
