Yes, that’s Jewel in the photo above.

And, yes, this is an American Idol blog.

But, hey, there is a connection. Besides, I’ll use any excuse to plug that voice.

AndJewel’s bringing that voice, her guitar and her songs to the American Music Theatre in Lancaster on Wednesday, Feb. 4.

As for the connection, Jewel was a guest judge on first episode inseason sixof Idol, helping critique singers auditioning in Minneapolis.

And while most of Jewel’s songs are her own, partial credit for the music to her 2006 single “Good Day” went to Kara DioGuardi — that’s right, the newest of Idol judges.

So, see, this blog isn’t as off target as you might think.

As for the voice, I remember hearing “Foolish Games” on the radio for the first time years ago and thinking, “Wow, who’s that?”

Fourteen years and 27 million albums later, Jewel’s still making music andthat voice is pure as ever.

And her acoustic shows are always a treat for the ears. The Feb. 4 show will mark her first acoustic concert is this area since a November 2006showin Baltimore. And who knows when she’ll be back now that she’s hitched to longtime beau and former rodeo champion Ty Murray?

Those of you who have something better to do Feb. 4 — I know, Idol will be on that night — might want to check out Jewel: The Essential Live Songbook, a two-DVD concert set (mostly acoustic) released just before Christmas.

Anyway, that’s my plug. I’ll let the voice do the rest. Here’s a clip from one of those concerts, with Jewel singing “Violet Eyes,” a song you won’t find on any of her CDs.
