A pleasant Idol surprise: New music from Brooke White

It’s a sorta dreary Tuesday. The weather’s turning colder. Frost is in the forecast.

Who comes along to brighten the day? None other than Ms. Sunshine herself, Brooke White.

New music Tuesday brought a new EP from Brooke, a five-tune iTunes exclusive.

Talk about pleasant surprises.

The EP features a piano cover of Stevie Nicks’ “Rhiannon” that I’ve been dying to hear since Brooke mentioned in a chat with fans a few months back that she sings the song.

There’s also an acoustic version of the “Radio, Radio” single, a live piano version of “Hold Up My Heart” and, best of all, a piano cover of “High Hopes and Heartbreak” that’s worth the price of the EP all by itself.

And, speaking of little rays of sunshine, there’s a new tune, “Take It Away,” that sounds like a demo of a song that didn’t make the cut for the album.

Tell you what, that season seven cast on Idol was a talented bunch. Three of the best Idol albums released this year have come from Brooke, Michael Johns and Amanda Overmyer (if you like southern rock).

Don’t believe me. Just check them out.

Meanwhile, thanks for the EP, Brooke.
