Adam Lambert to perform with Queen in the UK

No, Adam Lambert is not becoming the new lead singer for Queen.

Yes, Adam Lambert will perform with Queen — for one show on July 7 at the Sonisphere Festival in the U.K.

Adam confirmed those details in tweets to his fans Monday afternoon, about the same time the performance was announced on the Sonisphere Festival 2012 website.

“Sorry to be coy about the details the past few weeks, but I made a promise to keep it under wraps as best I could. Gonna be a surreal night!” Adam wrote in Monday’s message to fans.

Queen will headline the second day of the Sonisphere Festival. The venue at Knebworth was also the setting for the band’s final concert with Freddie Mercury back in 1986, notes a press release announcing the performance.

It won’t be Adam’s first appearance with Queen. He joined them on stage at the Europe MTV Awards when they received a Global Icon Award.

“Judging by my incoming mail, this decision will make a lot of people very happy,” Brian May said. “It’s a worthy challenge for us, and I’m sure Adam would meet with Freddie’s approval.”

In a post on his own website, Adam calls Mercury “a personal hero of mine” and says “I know the evening will be a huge milestone for me.” You can also find ticket information there.

Another milestone is coming up soon: The release of Adam’s second post-Idol album — “Trespassing” — now set for “Mapril,” according to what he told Z100 in New York last week.

In other words, there’s no firm date for the release of the album, which had been expected to drop sometime in March.
