The importance of Twitter sure became apparent to Matthew Schuler fans last week.

Not only did they save the West Chester University student from elimination on The Voice, but they’ve signed on as followers of Matthew at an impressive clip.

The 21-year-old picked up nearly 15,500 Twitter followers in the past week, more than any other contestant on the show.

He’s one of four contestants who gained more than 10,000 Twitter followers in the past week.

The others: Jacquie Lee, Tessanne Chin and Will Champlin.

And I won’t be surprised to see three of those four in the final three a couple of weeks from now.

Here’s the latest Twitter breakdown by contestant, with the counts taken at 10:30 a.m. Monday.

1. Tessanne Chin (@tessanne): 103,961 followers, 12,936 in the past week.

2. Jacquie Lee (@jacquieleemusic): 63,588 followers, 13,464 in the past week.

3. Matthew Schuler (@MSchulerMusic): 63,149 followers, 15,498 in the past week.

4. Will Champlin (@willchamplin): 47,660 followers, 11,542 in the past week.

5. James Wolpert (@JamesPWolpert): 41,848 followers, 9,188 in the past week.

6. Cole Vosbury (@ColeVosbury): 34,106 followers, 8,295 in the past week.
