For one of his final battle round pairings, Blake Shelton had country singer Allison Bray square off against aspiring pop singer Fernanda Bosch.
Fernanda, 17, of Miami, Fla., auditioned with Macy Gray’s “I Try,” and turned two chairs with her unique vocals.
Returning contestant Allison, 18, of Louisville, Ky., auditioned with Kacey Musgraves’ “Merry Go Round” and turned a trio of chairs.
They sang Taylor Swift’s “Sparks Fly” in a battle we didn’t get to see. Blake declared Allison the winner; Fernanda was not stolen.
In a conference call Wednesday, Allison said she and Fernanda weren’t exactly comfortable with the song choice. Taylor Swift songs just aren’t what they sing.
“The two of us together working on it, in the beginning, was very, very tough,” she admitted, but said a rehearsal with Blake Shelton and Little Big Town helped work out who would sing which parts of the song.
“On stage, we had a blast.” she said. “We were just feeding off of each other. I think it ultimately boiled down to who had the better time and who worked a little more on it. I think Blake felt I did a little better job on it. But for both of us it was a struggle because neither one of us come from a music background where we perform Taylor Swift a lot.”
