Hollie Cavanagh had better hope one of four things happened Wednesday night.
1. Idol fans remembered how impressive she was doing the first three weeks of the finals and voted like crazy to save her.
2. All the young girls who vote like crazy suddenly realized Deandre Brackensick is the weakest singer left standing.
3. Viewers were so embarrassed at the way Jennifer Lopez fawns over Deandre that they decided not to vote for him so they won’t have to witness it again.
4. The Idol makers decided it’s time for a fresh dose of Idol drama. So they rigged the results so the judges will have to save Joshua Ledet or Elise Testone.
The first three are doubtful; the fourth is nothing but a wild hunch.
In other words, Hollie Cavanagh should be worried.
But before we find out how worried she should be, we’ll get to witness the new video from the aforementioned Jennifer, a performance by the always-welcome Kellie Pickler and a song by someone or something called The Wanted.
To find out why I don’t think The Wanted should be on American Idol, head here.
First up, tonight, a Jennifer Lopez commercial. Oops, I meant video. Hmm. Interesting.
Time for some results ..
Joshua Ledet: Jimmy says Joshua is hitting his sweet spot now. “Perfect song, perfect delivery, 10s all around,” says Jimmy. Joshua is safe.
Jessica Sanchez: Jimmy says she sang fine and did well, but needed to select a song with more power. She said there are two power singers on the show — she and Joshua — and Joshua won last night. Jessica is safe.
Here comes The Wanted. Again, this is a performance shot that should have gone to a former Idol contestant.
Well, that actually wasn’t a bad performance. Pretty catchy song. But I still think Idol should showcase Idols.
Skylar Laine: Jimmy says she proved she was a power singer and went from the bottom right to the top and could win the whole thing. Skylar is safe.
Colton Dixon: Jimmy says Colton was good, not great, and came in behind Joshua and Skylar. Colton is safe.
Hollie Cavanagh: Jimmy says she’s approaching this like a high school performer and it wasn’t even a good high school performance. He says she’ll probably be fighting with Deandre for who’s packing. Hollie is in the bottom three.
Deandre Brackensick: No Jennifer. No Steven. No Randy. Deandre was not great. He’s growing marginally and was the weakest of the boys. And Deandre heads to the bottom three.
Hooray, it’s Kellie Pickler. She’s singing “Where’s Tammy Wynette.”
If Ryan Seacrest ever leaves Idol, Kellie’s my pick for host. Now that could be an absolute hoot.
Elise Testone: Jimmy says her song wasn’t wrong. She just choked. And it might have taken her from the top to the bottom. Elise is in the bottom three.
Phillip Phillips: Jimmy says there’s a great version of yourself, a good version, and a terrible version. Last night was only a good version. And his weakest performance since the finals started. Phillip is safe.
And here’s a shocker. Hollie Cavanagh is sent back to safety.
That leaves Deandre and Elise in danger of leaving.
And Deandre is the low vote-getter and has to sing for the save. You know Jennifer will be pulling for him.
Hopefully the other judges will come to their senses and ignore her fascination with the youngster.
He does an adequate job with the save-me song. Now comes the moment of truth.
Deandre will not be saved, despite Jennifer’s support.
