One of Season 9’s most highly touted artists was pushed to the brink of elimination during The Voice knockout round.
Amy Vachal said Madi Davis had performed so well in their Team Pharrell knockout round match that she agreed with his decision to award the win to the Texas teen.
She was preparing to deliver her farewell words to Pharrell when the unexpected happened.
Two coaches decided Amy would be worth their only knockout round steal, and Adam Levine and Blake Shelton started lobbying to become her new coach.
During a Tuesday conference call with the media, Amy elaborated on her reason for selecting Adam over Blake.
The singer-songwriter from Brooklyn, N.Y., said she’s convinced there would not have been a wrong decision, because both men are such great coaches. But in the long run, she said she suspects she might see more “eye-to-eye” musically with Adam.
“I’ve always been such a huge fan of Adam,” Amy said. “I’ve grown up with him in my head; I’ve been listening to his music for so long. And he’s such a multi-faceted artist. Even during blinds, I wish I had the opportunity to work with him. So that was always on my heart.
“But that moment was kind of a blur for me. You have two of the handsomest, most talented people on the planet saying the sweetest things you’ve ever been told in your life. I’m just glad any words came out of my mouth just because I was so blown away.”
She might have lost the knockout, but her cover of “Sunday Kind of Love” struck a chord with viewers.
It was the most popular song from the night on iTunes. Amy also scored the second most popular song in the blind auditions with her version of “Dream a Little Dream.” Only Andi and Alex, eliminated on Monday’s show, had done better.
