And the predictable happened: It has soared straight to number one on iTunes country songs chart.
In fact, it’s still there Friday morning, more than 48 hours after its official release.
It’s also number four on iTunes overall singles chart, trailing only two new releases by Nicki Minaj and one by Drake.
But all of that is just the lead-up to her upcoming re-emergence onto the public stage.
Carrie is scheduled to perform “Cry Pretty” at Sunday’s Academy of Country Music Awards, being televised on CBS.
And that will mark her first public appearance since a fall at her home in November that resulted in a broken wrist and injuries requiring dozens of stitches to her face and prompting her to warn fans that she “might look a bit different” the next time they saw her.
In a recent update to fans, Carrie wrote that “my wrist is almost back to normal … And my face has been healing pretty nicely as well. I definitely feel more like myself than I have in a while.”
She also revealed that she’s working on a new album with producer David Garcia and is, in fact, co-producing her upcoming album, marking the first time she’s done that.
Carrie co-wrote “Cry Pretty” with Hillary Lindsey, Liz Rose and Lori McKenna. If you haven’t heard it, here it is.
The single also marks Carrie’s first released with Universal Music Group Nashville after being signed to Sony Music Nashville after her Idol victory.
