Carrie Underwood helped kick off the Pedigree Pet Adoption Drive at the Bideawee Manhattan Pet Shelter on Tuesday.

As part of the drive, Pedigree is donating a bowl of food to shelters for every new fan on Facebook.

Anyway, The Associated Press was on hand for the kickoff event, which gives me a wonderful excuse to post five new photos of the lovely Carrie posing with an adorable shelter dog.

No name was provided for the shelter dog, but he obviously couldn’t resist the temptation to kiss American Idol’s season four winner.

Hey, the only thing cuter could be Carrie Underwood holding a kitten.

Meanwhile, according to Carrie’s Web site, “Temporary Home” has hit number one on the Billboard country singles chart.

Billboard doesn’t update the charts on its Web site until Thursday, so I can’t confirm that.

But if it’s true, it would be Carrie’s ninth number one country single and her second from “Play On,” the new album she released in November.
