David Archuleta is greeted by dozens of fans upon his arrival in the Philippines earlier this week.

David Archuleta released his long-awaited new album on Friday.

And you might say it’s receiving warm reception.

As of 10 a.m. — 10 hours after its release — “Postcards in the Sky” had cracked the Top 10 on the iTunes pop albums chart.

It was sitting at number nine on that chart and number 45 on iTunes overall albums chart.

Little wonder. It’s unquestionably the best collection of music David has released since finishing second on Season 7 of American Idol.

It’s also his first new album since 2013.

“Postcards in the Sky” incorporates the eight tracks from the “Leo” and “Orion” EPs that David released earlier this year with eight new songs.

The title track opens the album and is a delightful way to do so. The new tracks also include a lovely duet with former The Voice contestant Madilyn Paige called “Seasons.”

With the release of the album, David posted a special message to fans on Facebook.

“I am so excited to have this album out for you to listen to,” he writes. “These songs mean so much to me. Thank you to the fans who have stuck around even after all these years during my time on my mission, and the time after to reflect and have a a metamorphosis of sorts. These songs tell my story.”

Fans are responding with their own reviews of “Postcards in the Sky.”

A sampling …

Nancy Ferwerda: “This is such a gem, David! I love every song! So heartfelt and real!!”

Patricia Burke: “This is such a beautiful, powerful, sensitive, heartfelt album. The lyrics are so good and I do love the sound!! Thank you for sharing these meaningful and personal songs and your journey with us.”

Janey Hughes: “Got it! Love it! Incredible effort. Much love and heart in those lyrics, would never attempt to pick a favorite!”

De Anna Ritchie: “I’ve had a rough last year and every song has a message that have helped me become a better me. Thank you for aharing your talent and changing my life.”

David is spending release day in the Philippines with a show in Quezon City.

But he’ll be back in the U.S. this week. In fact, he has two shows in Pennsylvania — he’ll be performing at The Sellersville Theater on Wednesday and at Club Cafe in Pittsburgh the following night.

You can check out all the upcoming tour dates on his Facebook page.
