FM97 threw a Birthday Barnyard Dance at Penn State York’s Pullo Center Friday night. And each time the radio station’s personalities mentioned David Archuleta’s name, it was pretty clear the majority of the fans on hand were there to see the season seven runner-up from American Idol.

For my pre-show interview with David, where he talks about his new album, go here. For a story and the initial photos posted from the show, go here. For a blog on what David and his fans think of the new American Idol judges, go here.

Now, some final impressions on the concert:

1. Where was everyone? The Pullo Center seemed half empty. Hey, folks, this show was a bargain. David was just one of five performers. Granted, I didn’t get to hear Runner Runner, Hot Chelle Rae or The Ready Set because I was busy interviewing fans and writing blogs. But Shontelle, as expected, was excellent. She and David alone would have been well worth the $18-=$25 admission price.

2. It’s clear his music isn’t the only thing fans like about David. Tiera Mummaw, 15, of Lititz pointed out his willingness to help with causes that assist the less fortunate. Lydia Ball, 17, of Parkton, Md., attributes part of his popularity to his personality. “He’s not fake. He’s a little quirky. Like me. Like lots of people.”

3. I was surprised to run across  two fans — Sara Jacobs, 23, of Baltimore, and Ashley Cepull, 17, of Dallastown — who knew of David since his Star Search days. Sara admitted she’s “a little obsessed” with David. Judging from what I witnessed, she wasn’t alone among Friday’s audience.

4. American Idol prides itself on being a drawing card for a younger TV audience. Well, Idol, you struck out with the selection of Steven Tyler as a judge. Most of the young David Archuleta fans I spoke with Friday night had no idea who Steven Tyler is.

5. I just had to ask. I just had to. Will David Archuleta be a post-Idol flash-in-the-pan? Someone who’s popular now based on his Idol success, but won’t be a couple of years from now? Lydia Ball absolutely scoffed at the notion. “He has three CDs out (well, the third will be out Oct. 5). He has a book out. His fans are loyal. We’re always going to stay with him.”

Now, enjoy the rest of the photos from Friday’s show.

Thanks for your write-up and the gorgeous pictures from last nights show! I can’t believe I missed this concert 🙁 I was in York last weekend (so sad)…and unfortunately could not make the 7 hour drive again. But I was on a cellcast last night listening to David sing!!! He is just amazing and I’m loving all his new music and can’t wait for his album to be released on Oct. 5. This new music seems to really fit David and how his life is going right now, along with his beliefs and inspiration that he shares with the fans/everyone. I will hopefully be able to catch David when he tours after his album gets released — his concerts are so much FUN and he is just amazing on stage.

Thanks for the write-up. David Archuleta isn’t just another Idol participant. I believe his amazing talent will keep him in the business for as long as he desires, which I hope is a looong time.

david’s phenomenal talent, and his ‘realness’ are a breath of much needed fresh air in a stale and dying music industry that has lost touch with what people really want to hear. we want to hear more from genuinely talented people like david. we want to know that talent still means something. david is no flash in any pan – as much as some would like to think so, what he has will always have mass appeal, and it is unique in a sea of no talent and autotune manufactured pop stars. he is the real deal, and i think real soon, those who have been with him from the beginning will be saying ‘i told you so’ to a bunch of folks daring to think otherwise.

I was there & David was absolutely, positively out of this world! My friend & I drove 6 hours from NC & it would do it again in a heartbeat! His new album is going to be AMAZING —just like him!

Amanda I agree with your comments! David offers something to the Pop Culture that does not exist right now! That is a beautiful, natural voice that has not been tampered with to make it better. He is the “real deal”….both his voice and his heart!

Hearing David is like eating Godiva Chocolate!!! You cannot get enough of his smooth, velvety voice and persona. I think that his heart speaks to so many people and just gives everyone a reason to enjoy Music once again. His voice and heart are always in sync, always making the audience feel the power of the music!!

Seeing David perform in person, is an addictive, joyous event!

Agree with previous comments. Top40 radio is so bland sounding. Because of autotune every “artist” sounds the same and therefore, every song is sounding the same. I’m tired of Katie Perry, Usher, and that obnoxious Bieber. I’m tired of clothes made of meat. There’s a market out there filled with people who prefer talent and raw, real vocals. David Archuleta fills our need. He also happens to be drop-dead gorgeous and addictively sweet in nature. Are we going away? Not on your life!!!

btw, you asked where everyone was. How about asking if the radio station promoted the event and if they have even played David’s new music.

Wish I could have gone to the concert! As so many have said, this guy can sing! With the current poverty of talent in the pop music industry an artist with great vocals is golden. David Archuleta is that kind of artist. His live performances are unbelievable.
