David Archuleta, New Idol Music

David Archuleta working on ‘special’ new album

7

Turns out David Archuleta will release new music before heading off on his two-year mission trip with the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

In fact, he’s nearly done recording a new album.

David made the announcement in a series of tweets to his fans this morning.  A video in which he discusses the project has been posted on his website.

The album will be OPM — short for original Pilipino music, in keeping with his trip to the Philippines to film the TV mini-series Nandito Ako.

But don’t worry, David fans in the U.S.

“They’re in English,” David says of the songs, “so I think everyone will like them.”

In the video on his website, David admits the project came together “very suddenly.”

“Since I’ll be leaving for a couple of years, it just seemed like it would be something really fun and special,” David said, adding that the songs he’s recording are “hearfelt and emotional and you can really sing them.”

As for fans outside the Philippines …

“Don’t worry,” David wrote, “there’s something for you coming too! Already working on other projects.”

No word on when the OPM music will be released.

In the meantime, here’s the trailer for the mini-series David has filmed.

At one point, he has to flee from overzealous fans in a rabbit costume.  In another, he gets smacked in the head with a canoe paddle.

But he clearly perseveres and wins over fans with his music.

David is wowing them in Philippines and Asia. So happy for him. He gives us fans sooooooo much. His rendition of “Nandito Ako” is out of this world and beyond. I’ve listened and watched him sing it at least fifty times and have to hear it again and again. David sings the song with so much emotion that he knocks it out of the ballpark and it’s a home run. Outstanding!!
