David Cook's Team for a Cure is second in the amount of money pledged toward Sunday's Race for Hope in Washington, D.C.David Cook’s Team for a Cure is well on its way to raising more than $100,000 again this year for the Washington, D.C., Race for Hope, set for Sunday.

And tickets remain for David’s Friday night Concert for Hope at the Warner Theater. Ticket prices range from $42 to $62.

But David fans had better rally if they want to be the event’s top fundraisers again this year.

As of Wednesday afternoon, Team for a Cure had raised nearly $91,000 of its $100,000 goal.

That left them about $10,000 behind Cassidy Turley, a Baltimore-based real estate firm raising money in honor of Pat Cassidy. He was the founder of one of the company’s predecessors before dying of brain cancer in 2001.

David got involved in the Race for Hope in 2009 after losing his brother, Adam, to brain cancer. The 5K Run/Walk raises money to fund research and support services for those affected by brain tumors.

David’s Team for a Cure was the top fundraiser in 2009 with more than $135,000 in donations and again last year with more than $140,000.

The D.C. event’s 2011 fundraising goal is $2.3 million. So far, donors have pledged more than $1.8 million.

Congrats to David for his continued commitment to a cause near and dear to his heart.

Particularly impressive was the way he used his Idol appearance last week to plug the Race for Hope when he could  easily have spent the time promoting his highly anticipated “This Loud Morning” album, due out June 28.

That new album by American Idol’s season seven winner can be pre-ordered from his website. Pre-orders come with instant downloads of his new single (“The Last Goodbye”) and his Idol farewell song (“Don’t You (Forget About Me).”
